Hirilwen

Hirilwen of the House of Olindurionath, eight and forty years of age, never wedded, and is named among her kindred the watch-lady of the western tower. Through the salt-rimed nights of her middle years she has trimmed the lamp that warns the fisherfolk of the long reef, and she keeps in a chest of black oak the hunting-knife of her brother who fell upon the dunes in the corsair raid of her youth. She holds, as her house holds, for the King returned, for the Langstrand has too often watched alone.
