Calembel

Calembel stands as the principal town of Lamedon, commanding a small but prominent hill overlooking the fords of the River Ciril in northern Gondor. The town's position makes it a critical waypoint on the ancient road connecting Erech in the Morthond Vale to the great port city of Pelargir, serving as both guardian of the river crossing and gateway between the mountainous interior and the fertile lowlands of southern Gondor. The Ciril's fords below the town represent one of the few reliable crossing points in the region, and control of Calembel has historically meant control of movement through western Lamedon.The town rises in terraced levels up the hillside, with the imposing castle of Angbor - Lord of Lamedon - crowning the summit. From this vantage, watchmen can observe traffic on the road for miles in either direction and monitor the river valleys where tributaries descend from the White Mountains to the north. The elevation also provides natural defensive advantages, though Calembel has long been more administrative center than fortress, its strength lying in the loyalty of Lamedon's people rather than impregnable walls.
