Wadar sits in the rocky wadis at the inland edge of the Jarjara Escarpment, before it gives way to barren gravel plains and dunes. Clouds from the Bahr al-Yeshm drop their last reserves of water here in the spring and winter, giving the land just enough grass to support horse-rearing.
