Liwas
Liwas sits in the seaward end of the Sahal al-Wuhush, the Plain of Beasts. This broad valley runs between the Jabal Minshar, a sharp sandstone ridge near the coast, and the inland mesas of the Jarjara escarpment. Although the valleys name comes from the mysterious petroglyphs found here of horned and hoofed animals, it could just as well refer to the splendid horses that are grazed on the desert's short-lived but rich spring grasses.
