Deir Hawa
Deir Hawa sits on the windswept southern shores of the sea that the Aserai call the Bahr al-Yeshm. It survives on pit-mining in the dry nearby hills for silver. Although centuries of exploitation have long exhausted the richest veins, the villagers practice a number of close-guarded techniques to extract the precious metal from ore.
